Born in a small city in southern India, Ajay grew up in the cities of Hyderabad and Bangalore. He got his Bachelors degree from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka and graduated from Ohio University (OU) with Masters degree in 2008. His research interests were in Material Science and Navigation
He worked part-time in different roles while at OU: He was part of the International Students and Faculty Services (ISFS) helping new students during their orientation, worked at the civil department as a computer lab admin and managed database for osteopathic college of medicine related to a specific health grant, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
Research Interests
As a research associate in Avionics Engineering Center, he worked on algorithm development (design) of the software GPS receivers. The study of ionospheric effects on the receivers' performance is something he gained experience working there. As a part of this study he had to visit the HAARP facility at Gakona, Ak to install the necessary equipment for ionospheric research. The HAARP facility has this amazing capability to heat the local ionosphere using the antenna array with 3.6 MW power in 2.8 to 10 MHZ region of HF frequency for the study of scintillations caused by ionosphere on electromagnetic waves (GPS signals at L1, L2 and L5 frequencies). More details of the experiment are available in his blog. Apart from this he also worked on low SNR tracking of the GPS signals using both sequential processing (tracking loops) and block processing (or sometimes batch processing).
During Masters degree he spent his time on studying more about silicon's optical properties and how they could be used in fabricating advanced lighting systems and opto-electronic circuits. He faced huge challenges dealing with materials that area few nano-meters in thickness. Understanding the research effort OU awarded Ajay with Student Enhancement Award for the year of 2007. This research is part of his thesis and more details can be found in the Research>Masters tab.
Many other Interests
He is interested in learning new technologies. In the process of exploring new technologies he got involved with visual graphics design, web design, photography and photo editing. Each one of these is a profession by itself and being a novice, He tries to keep himself abreast of the latest technologies in these areas and learn new stuff every now and then. He is a big fan of NIKON cameras and no wonder He has a "Nikon D90" which is simply a marvelous piece of engineering. Please check back later for the pictures he has taken recently. He also found a lot on interest in articles related to the Indian history, culture and its foreign affairs. He was the web designers for International Student Union (ISU) which is the parent organization of over 23 different student organizations representing various countries at OU.
